Original typescript with manuscript corrections and revisions for her book of poems, Figure and field, plus a number of additional poems, make up this collection. They were originally in spiral-bound notebooks; spirals were removed during processing and the contents foldered.

Jean Farley graduated with a major in English from the Woman's College (UNCG) in 1950. She worked as a poetry editor at the Kenyon Review in Gambier, Ohio where she resided with her husband, Ellington White.
